Mechanism Of Action:

L-Arginine is a precursor of nitric oxide, which exhibits activity as a vasodilator, platelet-aggregation inhibitor and modulator of immunological processes and epithelial premeability. Arginine also stimulates the release of pituitary growth hormone presumably as a result of effects on thye hypothalamus.

Dosing and Indications:

Adult Dosing: Growth hormone stimulation test

• 30g IV infusion over 30 minutes; Max total dose 30g

Pediatric Dosing: Growth hormone stimulation test

• 59kg or less; 0.5g/kg IV infusion over 30 minutes; Max total dose 30g
• 60kg or greater; 30g IV infusion over 30 minutes; Max total dose 30g

Adverse Effects:

Common: Dermatologic: Flushing, Injection site reaction, Endocrine metabolic: Increased body temperature, GIT: Vomiting, Neurologic: Headache, numbness

Serious: Endocrione metabolic; Hyperkalemia
