PROPERTIES
Iron is an essential component of hemoglobin. Folic Acid and Cyanocobalamine are necessary for DNA Synthesis. Pyridoxine is important for hemoglobin synthesis. Ascorbic acid enhances absorption of Cyanocobalimine from the GIT INDICATIONS:1. Compensation of blood loss occurring due to menstruation, blood donation and use of anti-inflammatory drugs that cause blinding from the gastric mucosa. 2. Pregnancy – meeting greater demand. 3. Megaloblastic Anaemia 4. Sideroblastic Anaemia DOSAGE:FEROFOLIC SYRUP Adult – 1 Teaspoonful twice daily Children – Half teaspoonful twice daily Or as directed by the Physician FEROFOLIC CAPSULE:
One capsule daily after meal or as directed by the Physician SIDE EFFECTS: Side effects of iron include heartburn, nausea, upper gastric discomfort, constipation and diarrhea. Folic acid has no recognizable toxicity Cyanocobalamine has no significant toxicity Large doses of ascorbic acid are reported to cause diarrhea and other gastro-intestinal disturbances and are associated with the formation of renal calcium oxalate calculi. Ascorboic acid should be given with care to patients with hyperoscaluria. Iron Content in FEROFOLIC Ferofolic Syrup:Ferric ammonium citrate, a complex salt of undetermined structure, composed of iron, ammonia and citric acid, contains not less than 16.5% and not more than 22.5% of Elemental Iron. As Ferofolic syrup contains 220 mg of Ferric ammonium citrate per 5 ml, that works out to 36.3 mg (16.5%) of Elemental Iron to 49.5 mg (22.5%) of Elemental Iron in every 5 ml of Ferofolic Syrup consumed by the patient. Therefore in every 5 ml of the syrup consumed by the patient, a mimimal of 36.3 mg of Elemental Iron is present. Ferofolic CapsulesFerrous fumarate contains about 33% Elemental Iron. Each capsule contains 300 mg of Ferrous fumarate, i.e. 99 mg of Elemental Iron
